Brokenness

On Sunday May 5, 2014, after preaching on the 100 year anniversary of the Assemblies of God (a fellowship born out of revival), God seemed to light a fire inside many in our church.   The desire for revival has seemed to grow week by week.  People, both men and women, are asking for us to schedule additional times of prayer to position ourselves to catch this “wave.”  How exciting!  Yet, true revival isn’t the stirring up of emotions—it’s a renewing of the spirit.

This brings a question—what leads a person, a church, to experience a special move of God that takes you beyond the norm?  The Scripture provides us an answer—brokenness…the crushing of our wills.  Most of us have from time to time, experiences that unsettle us, even crush us.  However, it’s not just being crushed or broken that causes us to experience God’s special times of reviving, it is our response to that crushing that determines whether or not it leads to spiritual life or death.  We will expand on this Sunday June 1st.  So, if you are at a point in life where you just need more of God in your life…if you’re thirsty…join us on this journey!

Isaiah 57:15 (NLT) “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”

Catch a Wave!!!

Waves = forward movements of the ocean's water, happening over and over...caused by a frictional drag of WIND over the water's surface.

I have preached on Mother's Day almost every year since we began the church back in 1990.In the last few years, God has challenged me to speak on subjects that would not be considered your traditional Mother's Day messages. This year was no exception! I have been feeling a stirring, not only in my own heart, but in the church, and among other pastors, Christians, and ministers.

I am hungry for Revival! Not a special service that we call Revival, and not a week long series of services that we call Revival. I am hungry for the trickling of God's rain that I have experienced already to become deep ocean waters, and for the WIND of the Holy Spirit to begin blowing so significantly that the waves begin to rise and the presence of God is powerful and undeniable!

When surfers go out to Catch A Wave, they will wait for and dream about the perfect wave. Can I tell you that once you've experienced even a small wave of the Holy Spirit, you wait for and you dream about the next one!!

One surfer said: "I have no control over the weather, I have no ability to produce a wave, the only thing I can control is where I am when the wave comes in."  Positioning yourself is everything!

Joel chapter 2 and Hosea 6 (along with other scriptures) both speak of the Holy Spirit being poured out on God's people in the "last days."  A wave WILL come in and I have to be properly positioned to experience this wave!

Because of the depth and seriousness of what God is stirring in our hearts, my Mother's Day message has turned into at least a 3 week series!

Revival is not just so we can be overwhelmed by His presence, but so that we would be so full of His presence that we would overflow and "leak" the power of God!  Don't you have friends and family that need to experience the power of God?? It has to start with us!

As we continue to prepare for this wave of the Holy Spirit, please join us the next couple of Sundays as we begin to recognize the SIGNS revealing our need for Revival!!

I don't want to sit on the beach.....I want to CATCH A WAVE!!!
