A Moment like this only Happens once every one hundred years
Almost 40 years ago, my life was changed forever, as I began attending an Assemblies of God church in Kokomo, Indiana. There was something different about the people…the place. Raised in a Disciples of Christ Christian Church, I was used to worship services of ritual and formality. When I walked into the Assemblies of God Church, I experienced a people who were
very warm and friendly, real people who openly expressed their love for the Lord and for other people. After attending there for about a year, I understood the difference. Here was a people who hungered to experience the presence of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. As a result of God’s impact on their lives, they lived to serve and minister to people.
The year 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the Assemblies of God (A/G). Beginning with 300 believers who met in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the A/G has grown into a worldwide fellowship of over 66 million. The A/G is an outgrowth of the Azusa Street Revival that took place in 1906-1909 in Los Angeles, California. This coming Sunday, May 4th, I will trace the steps of our early pioneers, as we look at the foundation of the Assemblies of God. Also, we’ll show how the A/G formed simply to reflect the church as described in the Bible Book of Acts. In addition to that, our praise and worship will feature many of the songs through the ages—songs that express our theology, our experience with God, and our hunger for God.
If you’re like me, you’ve seen enough snow, enough brown grass, and enough leafless trees! Enough already! Spring—come quickly!
As Indiana weather goes, so goes the lives of many people. You go through seasons where your emotions, your spirit, and your mind feels like it is in the middle of winter. The longer it goes, the more discouraged and depressed you seem to get. In fact, it can seem like the effects winter will never end.
Thanks be to God, He offers the opportunity of a new season. Titus 3:5 (NLT) “…5 he saved us…giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.” We need to remember, that just as the spring rains and warmth will bring forth new life and God’s beautiful colors back to earth, His Spirit can rain on us and do the same.
Feeling dry? Life colorless? …lifeless? Let the Spirit of God rain on you, refresh and restore you! Yes, it’s time for the rain of refreshing from the Lord.
Psalm 84:1-6 (NLT) How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies. 2 I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God! 4 What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude 5 What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. 6 When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.
